Two males have been killed after being involved in a fatal motorcycle collision in County Durham.

Officers were first alerted to an incident taking place on Middridge Road, close to the roundabout to Rushyford just before noon on Friday (July 5th).

When responders arrived on the scene, they found two boys seeking immediate medical attention when their motorcycle collided with an unidentified object.

One of the males was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, with the second being taken to hospital for emergency treatment.

However, despite their best efforts to resuscitate the boy, the second rider was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Officers have now launched an investigation into the incident, and the families of the boys have been informed of their deaths, whilst being supported by specially trained officers.

Initial enquiries carried out by Durham Constabulary have revealed that both victims were travelling on the same motorcycle when the crash took place.

They also found during their initial investigations that no other people were injured in the collision.

Police sealed off Middridge Road, as well as a part of the A689, for several hours as the force carried out forensic investigations. The road was reopened on Friday evening.

Investigators are now appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time of the collision to come forward as soon as possible.

Specifically, anyone with dashcam footage is being urged to get in touch with the force by calling 101 and quoting incident reference number 144 from July 5th.
