Four teenagers have been charged with criminal offences following a roof top incident in Newcastle.

At 2:38pm on Saturday, March 5, police received a report of people on the roof of a building in the grounds of the General Hospital, in Wingrove Avenue, throwing stones at vehicles.

Officers attended and arrested four males (aged 14,16,16 and 19) in connection with the incident.

The two 16-year-olds and the 14-year-old have been charged with offences including affray, criminal damage and assaulting a police officer.

Shane John Paul Barras, who is 19 and from Saint Johns Road in Newcastle, was charged with affray and two counts of criminal damage.

All four have been remanded in custody to appear at North Tyneside Magistrates' court on Monday, March 7.

Police are warning people about the consequences of climbing onto building roofs.

In recent weeks there has been a number of these incidents and a number of people, often children, have been charged with criminal offences.

These incidents take up a lot of valuable emergency service resources and can put lives at risk.

All offences of this nature will be taken extremely seriously and those involved dealt with robustly.
