Rock N Roll Circus enlists major circus entertainment company for series of huge events this week
Rock N Roll Circus has announced that the acclaimed performance company Circus Antics will bring its awe-inspiring aerial artists, stilt walkers, acrobats and much more to the huge series of live events this week (9 & 11 June).
The all-new touring concept fuses circus with live music, bringing some of the biggest acts to Town Moor for three dates. Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, The Libertines, The Charlatans and more are all set to perform under a huge big top along with some of the country’s best circus performers.
Bristol’s Circus Antics was formed in 1988 by circus performer Alice Newton. Starting its life as a small business, the company has grown into a leading circus entertainment agency that brings together some of the country’s most talented performers for major events across the world.
Alice’s circus journey began in her school days. By the age of 14, she was juggling with fire and just two years later she was swinging from a trapeze with a circus company in Holland. She turned full time at the age of 18 and has never looked back. She met her long-time collaborator and fellow circus performer Merlin Bolton-Smyth in 2005 who joined the company as show producer.
Aside from performing at the UK’s biggest music festivals like Glastonbury, Boomtown and Shindig Festival, Circus Antics has also been part of major events on the international stage, including the forty-year anniversary celebration of the United Arab Emirates and the spectacular 2012 Paralympics Closing Ceremony where they performed alongside Coldplay, Jay-Z and Rihanna.
“Alice and I were part of a team of twelve stilt walkers where we performed as four-legged stilt-walking crows as part of a parade with a bunch of Mutoid waist vehicles. It was epic,” Merlin said.
“It was the finale of the whole show, we were in the middle of the stadium, able to watch all the fireworks going off around the edge of the stadium, with water jets and water blasting everywhere and the music going crazy. I remember just going ‘wow, this is totally a life highlight’.”
Circus Antics has assembled a cast of talented circus performers, from aerial artists and stilt walkers to unicyclists and jugglers. The circus acts will be found across the site, with acrobats, fire performers and hula hooping acts welcoming arrivals and a pair of aerial artists performing within the Big Top itself.
“It's a mix of good music and fun circus and I think that's its unique selling point,” Merlin said. “It’s something amazing to look at and something amazing to listen to.”
“You won't be disappointed when you get your ticket,” Alice added. “There'll be lots of lots of entertainment and loads of things to come and do and see. We can’t wait!”
