Robert Hutchinson Murder: A Year On
The family of Sunderland Granddad Robert Hutchinson say not knowing what happened to him is 'killing us'.
Robert's daughter Paula says having to spend Father's Day without her dad has been heartbreaking - as she also has to try to explain to her 9 year old son where he is...
She says:
"I've just told him that his granddad's missing, and that the police are looking for him, everybody is looking for him. You just don't know what to tell him, I don't want to tell him he's dead, because we just don't know"
Today marks a year since the 57 year old was last seen leaving his home in Corporation Road in the Hendon area on the evening of Monday 23rd June 2014.
Northumbria Police say his blue Nissan Micra was found later abandoned at the end of Stewart Street, just off Chester Road.
A murder investigation was then launched.
The force say officers will be in the area today (Tuesday June 23.) appealing for information into Robert's murder.
Detective Chief Inspector Lisa Theaker said:
"It's now a year since Robert was last seen and both us and his family need answers to what happened to him.
"There will be people within the community who will have information about his murder and information that can assist with our enquiry and we need them to come forward and speak to us. I want people to think back to this time last year and think about what they were doing and whether they saw anything that may help ...Chester Road is a busy road if anyone was in the area then again I'd ask them to get in contact. The past year has been incredibly difficult for Robert's family and friends, not least as they still do not have the answers they need as to what happened to him."
