Households in the North East have seen the biggest rise in living standards since the start of the recession.

Families in our region are £800 a year better off last year compared to 2007-8 according to a report.

But, it does down that incomes in the North East are the third lowest in the whole of the UK.

Northern Ireland’s seen the biggest fall in living standards.

The think tank the Resolution Foundation is behind the report, Laura Gardiner is from the group and said: “It’s a testament to both jobs and wages in the North East which have both outperformed the UK average over the downturn and recovery period.

“There is a certain sense that if you’re at the bottom the only way is up, so for example people in the North East are more likely to have been helped by the minimum wages because more of them are on it.”
