Gateshead council are hailing a brand new pothole filling machine as a game changer.

The Pothole Pro is being rolled out to help fix the roads throughout the borough - as part of the council's promised £7.7 million investment into improving our roads over the next 5 years.

The Council say the machine will be used alongside the current repair programme to ensure that potholes reported by residents can be resolved as quickly as possible.

Councillor John McElroy, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “This is a really exciting investment for us as we know it will make a huge difference to the condition of our roads and the speed that we can respond to any issues reported.

“Since April our crews have fixed 2,500sqm of road but we want to do more. The Pothole pro is one way for us to do that. I’m looking forward to residents seeing the difference this will make over the coming months and we will share updates on the benefits it brings to our local communities.”

They say the Pothole Pro is a 3in 1 machine which cuts, crops and cleans, reducing the need for additional specialist equipment and manpower.

A pothole repaired this way will typically be completed within 8 minutes, four times quicker than traditional repair methods.
