Police Watchdog Investigates After Man Dies During Police Search

An investigation is underway after a man died during a police search warrant at his home in Sunderland.

An investigation is underway after a man died during a police search warrant at his home in Sunderland. At around 7.30pm last night police searched an address on High Street, just off Easington Lane in Houghton-le-Spring. During the search a 43-year-old man who lived at the address became unwell. Paramedics were called to the address to treat the man but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and due to the contact between officers and the man the matter will be referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
