Police name teen killed in tragic Gateshead collision
Police can now release the name of a teenager who tragically died in a collision in Gateshead at the weekend.
On Saturday shortly before 10pm police received a report of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A694 at Derwent Haugh Park, Blaydon, at the junction with Swalwell Cricket Club.
Critical care nurses who came across the collision worked hard to save the man until paramedics arrived to take over but he was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The man can now be named as 18-year-old Sam McIver of Winlaton Mill, Gateshead.
His devastated family are currently being supported by specialist officers and ask for their privacy to be respected at this time.
An investigation into the incident was immediately launched and today police re-issue their appeal for any witnesses to come forward.
Sgt Matt Sykes of the Force’s Motor Patrols Department said: “Sam’s family are very much in our thoughts at this extremely sad time and I continue to ask members of the public to respect their privacy.
“We remain committed to establishing the circumstances surrounding this incident and I again appeal to anybodywho was in the area around that time to come forward with any information or dashcam footage, as it may prove crucial in determining the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
