At about 7.35pm on Friday police received a report that a male pedestrian had been hit by a bus in the area of Leechmere Way and Leechmere View in the Ryhope area of the city.

Emergency services attended but sadly the 64-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody on the bus was injured.

Specialist officers from Northumbria Police have been supporting the man’s family at this difficult time.

Police have now named the victim as Jimmy Peacock who lived in the Silksworth area of Sunderland.

Today, his family paid tribute to the popular dad and in a statement said:

Anyone who can assist police is asked to report it online at the Northumbria Police website, or by calling 101, quoting log 975 21/05/21.
