Police investigating Newcastle assault appeal to the public for information.

Officers investigating an assault in Newcastle are appealing to the public for information.

Shortly after 3.40am on September 20, a 21-year-old man and a friend were walking by St Nicholas Cathedral on St Nicholas Street.

A man then approached them threatening them and demanding money before spraying the 21-year-old man with an unknown substance causing injuries to his eye.

As part of their investigation, officers are now appealing to the public for witnesses and anyone with information that could assist with their investigation.
