Police cordon in place after three people taken to hospital in Blyth

Three people were taken to hospital after reports of an assault in Blyth.

Great North Air Ambulance attended the scene the Bridge Street area of Blyth just after 1am.

A cordon has been in place for several hours, with diversions in place for traffic.

Police remain at the scene.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly after 12.50am today we were made aware of a disturbance in the Bridge Street area of Blyth.

“Emergency services attended the scene where it was reported a group of people had been fighting in the street.

“Three men were found to have sustained non-life threatening injuries consistent with having been caused by a bladed article.

“They were taken to hospital for treatment, and two of the men have since been discharged.

“An investigation has been launched to establish the full circumstances and locate those involved.

“A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and remains in police custody at this time.

“Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and offer reassurance to the public. Cordons are in place in parts of the town including Blyth bus station.
