Police close Newcastle street after assault

A man and woman are in hospital with puncture wounds after an assault in Newcastle.

Police received a report from the ambulance service at 3.50pm today (Monday, October 17) that two people had been taken to hospital after being assaulted on Stanhope Street in Arthurs Hill.

They both suffered puncture wounds and are currently receiving treatment.

Officers are currently at the scene and a section of Stanhope Street has been closed to allow for enquiries to be carried out. Anyone who was in Stanhope Street around the time of the incident and who saw anything that might help police with their enquiries is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference number 702 17/10/16.
