Police appeal after three dead in Gateshead crash

Police are continuing to appeal for information after a fatal collision in Gateshead.

Police received a report of a collision involving a car and a lorry on Fellside Road at 2.20am this morning (Wednesday).

Officers, fire services and paramedics attended and three people, who were travelling in the car, were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car was a 43-year-old local man and the two passengers were girls, both aged 17, and also from the Gateshead area.

The car they were travelling in was a distinctive black Mercedes C63 AMG model and officers are appealing for anyone who might have seen the car in the hours leading up to the collision to contact them.

Police believe the Mercedes may have been in the area around the Metro Centre earlier that evening and are looking to trace it's movements up to 2:20am.

Police say their thoughts continue to be with the friends and families of those involved in this tragic incident.
