Police are appealing for witnesses after a pedestrian was seriously injured following a collision in Newcastle.

At around 12pm yesterday (Monday 29th October), officers received a report of a collision on the A189 Jesmond Dene Road, close to the junction with Moorfield.

It was reported that a red single-decker bus had been travelling east when, for reasons yet to be established, it struck a male pedestrian on the road.

Emergency services attended the scene and a man aged in his 70s was found to have sustained serious injuries.

He was taken to hospital for treatment and remains in a critical condition.

Police say the man’s next of kin have been informed and the driver of the bus remained at the scene and is continuing to assist police with their enquiries.

Officers from Northumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit have launched a full investigation and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

They are particularly keen to hear from any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police – including motorists who might have dashcam footage.

Anyone with information about the incident can get in touch with Northumbria Police by sending a direct message on social media, or using live chat or the ‘Report’ section of the Force’s website.
