A man has sadly died following a collision with a car in Morpeth.

At around 8.45pm yesterday (Wednesday) police were contacted by the North East Ambulance Service, who were in attendance on the A196, after receiving reports a vehicle had been in collision with a pedestrian.

Officers attended the scene and assisted paramedics, but despite the best efforts of all those involved, the man, aged 75, was sadly pronounced as deceased.

His family have been notified and are currently being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene to assist police with enquiries and an investigation has now been launched.

Today, officers are asking anyone who might have seen what happened or have dashcam footage from the area, to get in touch.

Sergeant Seve Armstrong of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department said:

“This is a very sad outcome and our thoughts are with the man’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.

“Our investigation is underway and we are working hard to establish exactly what has happened. We’ve spoken with the driver and a number of witnesses so far, but if anyone else is able to help, please contact us.

Anyone with information should contact police using the ‘Tell us Something’ page on the police website, or by calling 101, quoting log number NP-20230405-1085.
