Plans To Cut Children’s Centres

Northumberland mums are campaigning against the closure of children’s centres.

Northumberland Council wants to close five out of 20 to save £370,000.

But mums in Ponteland believe it’ll leave them isolated as they say they will have to travel 20 miles to their nearest centre.

The parents say in an already rural area there are not many community facilities left.

They say it needs to be run in the most cost-effective way for children and the families who need them the most.

They also plan to continue providing a full range of children’s centre services, that all families across the county can access.

The council’s plan is to run them more efficiently and to only stop providing services if they are not working, or not helping the families in need who they were designed to support.

They are now consulting with families in the county until February 12th.
