Pensioner Dies After River Rescue In Durham
A 69-year-old man has died after falling down a riverbank and into a river in Durham earlier today
A 69-year-old man has died after falling into the River Wear in Durham
Police believe he was taken ill causing him to fall down a riverbank at around 8.25am
He was pulled out of the water by passers-by who gave him basic life support before emergency services arrived. Police were called to the scene, near Knightsgate Bridge, along with fire and ambulance crews, and the man was taken to hospital. Durham Constabulary have confirmed despite the efforts to save him he later died.
