Newcastle United made history last week as the team stormed its way to a 2-1 victory against Southampton at St James’ Park, securing a place in their first major final in 24 years.

For those young enough to remember, a late Guy Poyet goal, against Bobby Robson’s Mags at the semi-final against Chelsea in 2000, was the last time United faced heart ache Wembley, but finally, after years of hurt, the black and whites are back in business to face either Nottingham Forest or more probably old foes, Manchester United in the League Cup Final.

For those fans that are unable to snap up tickets for the eagerly anticipated League Cup Final in late February, Northumbria University’s largest venue, Domain has promised to offer the ultimate experience for those that can’t make it to Wembley Way.

Domain’s EFL Cup Fanzone is being hailed as the next best thing for the Newcastle fans who won’t be cheering on the Magpies from the stands of Wembley Stadium. With a huge capacity of over 1400, the city centre venue will be set alight on the 26 February with roars, cheers and chants from the country’s most passionate footy fans.

It is set to be an unmissable opportunity for Newcastle fans to come together under one roof to experience a monumental moment in the club’s chequered history which has featured both huge success and crushing disappointment over the last few decades.

With a massive 10ft by 7ft screen, industry-leading sound and unmatched pre- and post-match entertainment, Domain will offer a truly immersive atmosphere. Presenting the event will be one of the North East’s most well-loved comedians, Gavin Webster. Known for his acclaimed stand up sets at the likes of Edinburgh Fringe Festival and appearances on popular comedy TV shows such as Never Mind the Buzzcocks and The Stand-up Show.

The wildly popular and fast-rising Geordie singer-songwriter Andrew Cushin will bring his trademark stadium-ready anthems to the event. With his full band behind him, the young up-and-comer - who performed to fans at St James’ Park last year - will provide the perfect soundtrack for the event.

Lead promoter for the event, Anthony Thompson, commented: "As a lifelong Newcastle fan who also runs a live music events company, I was always hoping for a chance to combine the two. But, as we all know, those chances have been few and far between.

“The city has been buzzing since the takeover, and it's been a pleasure to watch Newcastle go from strength to strength. As Newcastle advanced further in the cup, we began toying with the idea of implementing a Fanzone.

“Now that we've made the final, we can finally put all of our plans into action and deliver a live music event / football screening that the entire city can be proud of.

“We're overjoyed to have hotly tipped Geordie Andrew Cushin and the hilarious Gavin Webster on board to keep us entertained. That's at least until the modern day entertainers take to the field in their first final since 1999! Howay the lads!"
