Killer of Northumberland woman in 1997 murder released from prison
Steven Ling admitted murdering Joanne Tulip in Stamfordham on Christmas Day, 1997
The killer of a Northumberland woman, nearly 30 years ago, has been released from prison today.
Steven Ling admitted murdering Joanne Tulip in Stamfordham on Christmas Day, 1997.
Ling was given a life sentence for Joanne's murder - after he stabbed her 60 times - and was recommended for release by the parole board after a hearing last July.
The Ministry of Justice say he will be on license for the rest of his life, with strict conditions to follow - including not contacting his victim's family.
A Ministry of Justice spokesperson said:
“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Joanne Tulip.
“Steven Ling will be on licence for the rest of his life, with strict conditions and intensive probation supervision after he is released, including not to contact Joanne’s family. He faces an immediate return to prison if he breaks the rules.”
