The North East has voted to LEAVE the EU...

And the rest of the UK has followed, we've voted to LEAVE the European Union.

Listen to our 1 o'clock special here:

It was so tight up till around 4am this morning when the leave campaign started to edge further and further into the lead.

At the beginning of the count last night Newcastle were the first in the UK to declare...

That was a very, very tight victory for remain - at that point projections believed the UK was going to vote to stay in the EU.

Shortly after though the Sunderland count came in, and that was a MASSIVE win for Leave - by a margin of more than 30 thousand votes

From that every other part of our region voted to leave the EU - Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage hailed the Sunderland vote.

Meanwhile - our reporter Charlotte Murphy is out and about in OUR region.
