One day after returning from Calais, a North East aid group say they're amazed by what they saw in refugee camps there.
Volunteers from North East Solidarity with Calais Refugees spent two days over the weekend handing out clothing, food and toiletries to thousands of families fleeing their homes.
They were confronted with the sight of poorly constructed homes, poor hygiene and a lack of food supplies.
While in 'The Jungle' the volunteers handed out supplies donated by generous people from the region, including hand written cards from school children.
During the journey home, the group were already planning their second trip to the town.
The group was founded by South Shields filmmaker Shah Lalon Amin.
He said: "I saw a young child and it's the children we see on the news, but we've never seen them face to face.
"I went to his father and I asked him how he felt and he said "What do the people in Britain hate us for?" And I told him we don't hate him, we are here to help.
"These people were doctors, they were mechanics and engineers and yet they find themselves now queuing for soap and razors, it's just so sad."
