North East schools struggle to recruit Head Teachers
A lack of head teachers in the North East could have a knock-on effect on the education of kids in our region.
The Education of North East Kids could suffer if schools in our region fail to recruit more head teachers
That's what we're hearing from The Future Leaders Trust this morning - which helps schools to find teachers best suited to their needs.
So far the organisation has found a pool of talented head teachers and aspiring head teachers who are ready to support schools struggling to recruit a leader.
Seven potential candidates have expressed a desire to work right here in schools in the North East.
The Future Leaders Trust, which runs the government’s ‘Talented Leaders Programme’, has found potential head teachers for schools facing challenging circumstances, especially in rural and coastal parts of England.
One person who thinks more needs to be done to prevent the education of local kids suffering a blow is Allie Denholme. She was relocated to the North East last year as part of the Talented Leaders Programme. She is now a Head teacher in South Shields and thinks that if this issue isn’t resolved; it has the potential to impact future unemployment figures:
“If we haven’t got the right people in the leadership positions across the area then it is going to impact on the students and that then has a knock-on effect on our further education and the opportunities our students have going forward. Ultimately the employment in the area will suffer as a consequence”
Allie went on to say that the education of students must be an absolute priority for teacher. Adding that it is their duty to help pupils achieve the very best that they can:
“The outcome of the students is at the heart of everything and if you haven’t got outstanding leadership, the children are going to be the ones who suffer. It’s about making sure that the kids experience outstanding teaching and learning day in and day out so that they can make the levels of progress they need to do”
