North East RSPCA: 'Christmas Day can be stressful for our pets'
They are giving tips on how to keep your pets safe on the big day
The RSPCA tell us that the often busy and chaotic festive period can be a stressful time for our pets across the North East.
With presents, festive food and tinsel involved, they tell us how we can keep our pets safe and happy on Christmas Day.
Maggie Eden, Manager of the RSPCA Felledge animal centre in Chester-le-Street, said: "I think it's really important to remember about your pets on Christmas day because it's an exciting time for lots of people, especially if you've got a young family. I think it's really important just to try and keep things as normal as you can for your pet, to give them their normal exercise at the usual times and give them their food at the same time.
"Creating them a quiet space. If you're having a really busy family Christmas and lots of people are dropping around or there are relatives staying over, perhaps make a nice cosy den area for your pet that's theirs and perhaps reminding other people to give them some space and some time to rest.
"We do need to be mindful of animals that live outside; particularly rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals. Don't forget they're there and attending to them on Christmas Day as normal."
