The North East has the highest rate of male suicides in the country. That's according to the latest figures which show the number of people killing themselves is four times higher for men here than women. Shirley Smith from Chester-Le-Street started a suicide support charity after her son Daniel killed himself. She says male stubborness can be a big barrier for them getting help. Shirley said: "Females may be more prone to ask for help than men and I think as a region we still struggle with the real men don't ask for help situation that you're brought up around." She started a support charity after her son Daniel took his own life as a teenager and wants more people to speak about their problems.
