North East fire crews deployed in York to help flood victims
Firefighters from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service were mobilised early this morning.
Firefighters from Tyne and Wear Rescue Service are assisting emergency services in York as flooding continues to devastate the city.
The Service's High Volume Pump and inflatable rescue boat were deployed to a multi-agency holding area at Strensall Army Barracks in North Yorkshire.
Emergency teams, including 14 firefighters and two officers were mobilised at 6:30 this morning.
It's expected the operation will last three days but additional crews from Tyne and Wear are on standby as more rain is expected throughout the week.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer for Community Safety, Chris Lowther, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service has an important role in National Resilience in England and Wales.
"Our crews have a great deal of experience in dealing with these types of incidents and will be working hard to alleviate the terrible conditions people in North Yorkshire are facing.
Fortunately we have not had to respond to any similar flooding incidents here but I would like to reassure residents that we still have resources in Tyne and Wear to assist should they be required locally at any stage."
