Ashington man Nick Dunn has finally arrived home in Ashington, after landing at Newcastle Airport this morning.

Nick's one of the so called Chennai 6 - they were arrested back in 2013 on firearms charges and jailed last year

In total they've been held in the country for 1,516 days but just last week a court granted their appeal, finally freeing the men.

Nick's sister, Lisa, said in a statement:

"This is what we've been striving for over the last four years - now it's happening it seems all surreal

"Our family and Nick would like to thank our friends, family, our home town of Ashington, Newcastle, the North East and the public around the UK for their incredible support during the last agonising 4 years.

"It is your support that has kept Nick and us going through the darkest of times and for that we will be eternally grateful.

With him home for his first Christmas in more than four years, Nick said:

"Being back home for Christmas is going to be the biggest Christmas wish my family could have ever asked for. Being in the UK before Christmas is going to amazing, it's going to be five Christmases rolled into one."

Our reporter Charlotte Murphy picked up his sister Lisa Dunn this morning and took them to the airport.

It's fair to say Lisa Dunn and their family were very excited about Nick's pending arrival. Nick landed just after 12:00 today.

The rest of media gathered in the airport for Nicks arrival.

Not long to go!!!

Here is the moment Nick Dunn finally came through the arrival gate and greeted his sister.

Speaking to Nick after he landed, he was hugely emotional, and so grateful to his sister for the support whilst he was imprisoned.

Our reporter Charlotte Murphy had the honour of driving Nick Dunn and family home to Ashington.
