Port of Tyne Ship Launch - New Cruise Ship Setting Sail From Newcastle
Ambition, Ambassador Cruise Line’s latest ship, will set sail on her maiden voyage from the Port of Tyne at 18.00 today, Friday 12th May, following a day of launch celebrations.
The ship will be christened and blessed by its godmother - British sailor and double Olympic Gold Medallist Shirley Robertson OBE from Dundee, Ambition’s first stop on her inaugural sailing to France and Germany.
Every cruise ship has a godmother “to bring good luck and protection to the vessel”.
Following last year’s successful launch of Ambassador’s flagship, Ambience, who welcomed almost 30,000 guests, the cruise line is now giving guests the opportunity to sail on board Ambition, their second ship.
Ambition is a traditional cruise ship, small to mid-sized and is in the top 15% of environmentally sustainable ships in the world, allowing her to access to some of Europe’s protected ports and heritage waters, including the breath-taking Norwegian fjords.
Ambition’s launch is creating new jobs, while bringing more tourists to and boosting the economies of the eight different UK locations it will sail to and from – Newcastle, London Tilbury, Dundee, Edinburgh Leith, Falmouth, Liverpool, Bristol and Belfast.
Picking up guests from their closest port means they will no longer need to make journeys, often several hundred miles long, to get to a single departure point.
