Newcastle bike scam - arrest made

Incident took place on the Coast Road on 12th March

Police have made an arrest after an incident on the Coast Road. At around 10.30am on Saturday, March 12, police received a report of a bike having been thrown into the carriageway of the Coast Road near Billy Mill roundabout in North Shields. A motorcyclist stopped to remove the bike from the road and an offender attempted to steal his motorcycle. Enquiries were carried out and a 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of the attempted theft of a motorbike and causing danger to road users. He remains in police custody. Chief Inspector, Stephen Readdie, said: "Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and we appeal for anyone who may have information to help to contact police. "Throwing any objects into the road is reckless and incredibly dangerous and this incident could have caused a serious accident on what is an extremely busy stretch of road."
