Newcastle based gangster movie heading for streaming success
A new film, shot in Newcastle and based upon the true story of one of Britain’s most notorious crime families is flying up the streaming charts.
A New Breed of Criminal is based on the life of Stephen Sayers, who along with his brothers John and Michael, became a feared and violent gang of armed robbers, pulling off some of the biggest heists in the UK during the eighties and nineties.
The film explores Sayers childhood in which he witnesses domestic violence and becoming a victim of police brutality before seeing him learn the ropes of being a villain from his Dad and Uncle. An early brush with the law hardens him further, propelling him to fight for his position as top dog on the streets of Newcastle and the authorities subsequent attempt to bring him crashing back down.
Shot on location in Tenerife and Newcastle last autumn, the film stars Nicholas Ball (Hazell, Croupier), Eddie Webber (The Business, The Firm) and Michael McKell (Essex Boys, Emmerdale) alongside local talent including Lesley Saint John (Auf Weidersehen, Pet), Tony Hodge (Byker Grove) and Alfie Joey (Hebburn).
Producer Neil Jackson, from Media Arts said “Stephen’s has been a fantastic story to tell and it’s been a great opportunity to bring together the best cast and crew and make something really special.”A New Breed Of Criminal is available to buy on the usual streaming platforms and on dvd here: A New Breed of Criminal DVD
