Newcastle attack - man in critical condition

Police are appealing for information after a serious assault in Newcastle city centre.

At around 2.15am this morning (Sunday) police received a report that a man had been assaulted outside the 'Flame n Grill' takeaway on Marlborough Place near the Centre of Life.

Emergency services attended and a 31-year-old man was taken to hospital with life-threatenign injuries. He remains at hospital in a critical condition.

The individual responsible, believed to be a man, is believed to have fled the are towards the direction of Westmoreland Road before police arrived at the scene.

He is described as white, around 5ft10in tall, of slim build and dark hair. He was wearing a light coloured, short sleeve shirt, dark trousers and dark footwear.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and would like anyone who saw the incident, or knows the person responsible, to contact officers on 101 quoting log 112 20/11/16.
