New Newcastle theatre show encouraging people to live in the moment
Out Out! starts at Alphabetti Theatre on Tuesday evening

We're being encouraged to put down our phones and live in the moment - as a new show begins at Newcastle's Alphabetti theatre.
Out Out! comes from Joana Geronimo as part of Alphabetti's Artist Reaction Programme, and is an exploration of what it means to be present in the world.
"Joanna’s going out tonight. Her boots are on, her phone’s in her pocket and she is going to dance until dawn. She isn’t going to think about how good a picture this would be, how happy everyone would be if she shared it, how she should share it, should prove she was there."
We spoke to the play's director - Wambui Hardcastle - who tells us the audience will hopefully engage with the interactive nature of the play:
"My personal taste is, I don't like seeing theatre which feels 2D - that I could essentially just watch in on a screen,
"To me, the whole point of it is - it's here, with you, you're getting to enjoy it with other people and it responds to the audience in real time."
Wambui also explains there is an important message to take away from the show too:
"Maybe down the line, you find yourself on your phone for hours and hours a day...
"I do it too!
"And you think to yourself 'I think I'm missing what's happening right in front of me!'
"So you just put your phone down and just think of Joana's words and really just enjoy that moment."
Alphabetti Theatre hope to make theatre accessible for everyone, and the first week of Out Out's shows tickets are priced as Pay What You Feel.
Then from Tuesday 25th to Thusday 27th October, the show will be followed by Audrey Cook's reaction piece to Out Out!
