NE Youth Celebrated 90 Years of impact with Gala Event
ril at The Fed, Gateshead. The celebratory event marked a remarkable journey of service and impact in the community. Over 400 guests joined in the festivities to commemorate and celebrate their long history of making a difference in young people's lives across the North East.
NE Youth have experienced an incredible journey, evolving and adapting to the changing needs of young people over the past 90 years. From its beginnings as The Northumberland Association of Boys Clubs to its modern-day approach offering both open-access and targeted programs, they consistently strived to make a meaningful impact in young people’s lives.
Over the past nine decades they’ve worked with more than 1,000,000 young people—through wars, recessions, Covid, and the cost-of-living crisis—NE Youth remained a constant.
As part of their 90th celebrations, NE Youth launched the One in a Million campaign, aiming to find people who had been part of the charity's history. They intend to make a film made up of personal stories and interviews with individuals willing to share their experiences and insights on camera.
They already hold a large archive of paperwork, annual reports, memorabilia, press cuttings, and photographs documenting their regional impact. As part of the One in a Million campaign, they selected images from across the decades to share publicly in hopes of identifying and reconnecting with the individuals featured in them.
John Niblo, CEO of NE Youth, commented:
' Nine decades is a long time! The fact that we are still going and growing is an incredible feat! Our Gala event allowed us to celebrate the rich history of NE Youth, catch up with old friends & supporters whilst being entertained by some brilliant young people … and we raised a few quid too! Now more than ever we need financial support to ensure our sustainability and our promise to the young people of the region.
Huge thanks to our sponsor Robertson North Ltd and all who donated on the night, We raised around £12,000 which means we can support so many more young people. What an incredible evening!’
The evening featured performances from Lawnmowers, Josie Littlewood, Alf Hill and concluded with a set by singer-songwriter Channy.
NE Youth have set a target to raise an extra £90,000 across their anniversary year to help them support even more young people across the region
