Murder Investigation Launched In Gosforth

A murder investigation's been launched after a man was stabbed in Gosforth. Police say at around 5.45am on September 5th, officers were called to Park Avenue in Gosforth to reports that a 42-year-old man had been stabbed. Police and paramedics attended and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment for chest injuries but was pronounced dead a short time later. The road was cordoned off as officers carry out investigations and extra patrols will be in the area to reassure concerned members of the public Superintendent Richie Jackson, of the Central Area Command, said: "This incident has taken place in a quite residential street and I appreciate residents in the area may be concerned. "However, this is an isolated incident and we do not believe that there is any risk to the wider community as the parties involved had both been at a private property prior to the incident. "Our officers will be carrying out patrols in the area to offer reassurance to members of the public who are understandably worried that this has happened on their doorstep. "We will be in the area to continue to carry out house to house enquiries throughout the course of today and a cordon will remain in place at the scene. "I'd urge anyone with concerns to speak to officers. Anyone who thinks they may have information to assist us should also come forward as any information, no matter how small, may be able to help with our enquiries."
