Morpeth residents weren't content with a sub-par Christmas Tree this winter

After the Chamber of Trade put up a rather lacklustre specimen in the town centre earlier this week - people in the town were up in arms.

So thanks to the work of a councillor - a bigger, better one's gone up instead!

An appeal for support went out from Morpeth Town Councillor Rachael Hogg and just a couple of days later a new tree is in place.

Councillor Hogg commented,

"People in Morpeth really care about their town and Christmas time is particularly important to town centre traders.

I was happy to co-ordinate the efforts of the community to source a tree that residents can be proud of and that will be a real focal point over the coming weeks.

Morpeth has so much to offer at this time of year from festive events to shops launching their seasonal offers."

Chair of the Chamber of Trade, Ken Brown added, "I'd like to thank all involved including the donor of the original tree as we did think at one point that we might not be able to provide a tree at all this year."

A lot of people have asked about the tree that has been replaced and again the community has come together to find a solution.

It will be trimmed, re-shaped and installed at Stobhillgate First School. This will save the school the cost of buying one which is fantastic."
