Man stabbed in leg during Gateshead assault
A man has been stabbed in the leg during an assault in Gateshead. Around 3am on Wednesday, May 4, a 37-year-old man was assaulted by a number of men in Whitehall Road in Bensham. The victim also suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. He is currently in a stable condition. Officers responded and arrested five men in connection with the assault. They are all currently in police custody. Enquiries are ongoing into the incident and police are appealing for anyone who was in Whitehall Road and saw anything to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 80 04/05/16.
