Man sentenced for abusing young victim

A man has been sentenced to 16 years 10 months for a series of sexual offences. Adam Hann Johnson, 34, of no fixed abode was sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court after admitting he carried out the offences on his victim over a four year period. Johnson began abusing the young victim in 2012 until earlier this year when she bravely came forward to police. Detective Sergeant Grant Falconer has praised the victim for her incredible bravery and hopes this urges other victims to speak out. DS Falconer said: "This really has been an awful case for a young girl to be subject to this abuse from someone she should have been able to trust. She has been incredibly brave throughout this investigation, which has been very difficult for someone who is still so young. "I hope this brings some sense of closure for the victim and her family and hope they can begin to move on with their lives. I want to commend DC Sam Muhsin who has worked with the victim and family to help put this man before the courts. "I would urge anyone who has been a victim of any sort of abuse, recent or historic, to report it to police or a third party. This victim absolutely did the right thing in coming forward and the more positive outcomes we see at court, the more it helps support other victims in reporting sexual offences. “No one should suffer in silence and please be assured we will believe you.” Anyone who has been a victim of sexual abuse, or has concerns for someone, is asked to contact police on 101.
