A man has been jailed for more than five years after a knife-point robbery in Northumberland.

On Tuesday, January 5, Dean Bradshaw entered Chisolms Bookmakers, in Seaton Deleval, armed with a knife.

He demanded cash and made threats to staff before making off. The 26-year-old, of Main Street, Seghill, was arrested and charged with robbery and possessing an offensive weapon.

He appeared before Newcastle Crown Court on Wednesday, April 13, where the prison sentence was handed down. Detective Inspector Sharon Chatterton said: "Although no one was injured during the robbery, staff were understandably left shaken after a frightening experience for them. "The sentence passed by the court now mean a dangerous offender is behind bars for a significant period of time and Northumberland is a safer place for it. "This should be a warning to others that we will use every tool at our disposal to arrest offenders and have them put before the courts to ensure the community is protected from their criminal activity." Anyone with concerns can contact police on 101 ext 69191 or call 999 in an emergency.
