Man Jailed For Gateshead Stabbing
A man has been jailed for almost four years after a stabbing in Gateshead. On Thursday, April 23, police were called to a report that a man had been stabbed in a block of flats in Warwick Court. Officers attended and a 36-year-old man was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds to his leg. Robert McGowan, 32, of NFA (but formerly of Warwick Court) was arrested and charged with wounding. He appeared at Newcastle Crown Court on October 13 where he pleaded guilty to the charge and was given 35 months jail. He was also handed another 10 months on top of that for activating a suspended sentence. The victim of the incident received hospital treatment and made a full recovery. Detective Inspector Helen Anderson said:
"McGowan resorted to using a knife following an argument with his victim and stabbed him multiple times. The man could have suffered life changing injuries or even have died as a result of McGowan's actions. It's good to see that he is has been given a custodial sentence as he is clearly a dangerous person. Knives can kill and as a force we will always do everything we can to get them, and the people who use them, off out streets."
