Man found with stab wounds in South Shields

Police were called to Boldon Lane, South Shields at 4.59am, Tuesday, June 20, following reports of an injured man.

Officers attended and found at 41-year-old man in the street who had suffered a stab wound.

He was taken by ambulance to the RVI and later transferred to the Freeman Hospital. His condition is described as stable, his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and currently remains in custody.

Enquiries are continuing into the incident, and to establish where the assault took place.

Detective Inspector Sean McGuigan said: "We have additional patrols being carried out in the area to reassure the public and answer any concerns they may have. We are treating this as an isolated incident."

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone with information is asked to contact officers.
