Police have issued an appeal to the public to help trace a man who drove a motorbike at an officer.

Shortly before 3.20pm on May 5, police were on patrol in Wythburn Place in Gateshead when they spotted a motorist on an electric motocross bike, who they asked to stop.

But instead of stopping, the male reportedly drove directly at the officer, knocking him over, before fleeing the scene on foot.

The officer sustained minor injuries and an investigation to trace the man was launched.

As part of their enquiries, police have today (Tuesday) issued the image of a man who was in the area at the time of the incident, and could have information which can assist.
