Man dies in Jet Ski accident in South Shields
Tynemouth RNLI were called to the scene yesterday
A man has died after he got into difficulty with his jet-ski just off the South Shields coast.
Volunteers at Tynemouth RNLI were called to reports of a man in the water near Herd Sands just after 3 o'clock on Saturday afternoon.
The North East Ambulance Service and Great North Air Ambulance also attended the scene.
Rescue teams recovered the man from the water and tried to resuscitate him in the lifeboat, but despite their best efforts the man died at the scene.
A spokesperson for thr RNLI said:
"Our volunteers and all the paramedics really tried to save him, but unfortunately they couldn't. Our thoughts go out to his family."
The exact cause of death is yet to be confirmed, but Northumbria Police say inquiries are ongoing.
The man, who's believed to have been around 30 years old has not yet been formally identified.
