Man dies after being hit by car in Hebburn

Incident happened in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police are appealing for information after a fatal collision in Hebburn. The incident happened in the early hours of this morning (Saturday, April 9) at 12.20am in Victoria Road West. A pedestrian was struck by a car, the car failed to stop at the scene. Sadly, the pedestrian, a 56-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed to allow the incident to be dealt with and so enquiries could be carried out, it has since reopened. A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Enquiries are being carried and police are keen to speak to any witnesses. CCTV has identified pedestrians on Station Road, in Hebburn at around 12.25am and officers are keen for these people to come forward.
