Man dies after Gateshead motorbike crash

The biker collided with a road sign in Windy Nook.

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died in a collision in Gateshead. The collision happened around 9.25pm on Thursday, June 9, in Whitehill Drive, near to the junction with Campion Gardens, in Windy Nook. A motorbike left the road and collided with a road sign. The rider, a 42-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was pronounced dead. A 19-year-old pillion on the bike was also injured, his injuries are serious but not believed to be life-threatening. The road was closed for a short time to allow officers to carry out enquiries into the collision. Enquiries are going and police are appealing for witnesses.
