Man dies after Gateshead crash

A man has died after a crash in Gateshead.

It happened at 5.40am this morning (Friday, June 10), on the A695 Crawcrook bypass in Ryton.

Three vehicles - a Vauxhall Astra, Peugeot 207 and Ford Mondeo were involved.

The driver of the Vauxhall, a 29-year-old man, was taken to hospital but died as a result of his injuries. The driver of the Peugeot, a woman in her 20s, was also injured and was taken to hospital for treatment. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. The driver of the Ford was uninjured. The road was closed for a short time to allow for enquiries to be carried out into the collision. It is now reopen. Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries and are appealing for information.
