Man in critical condition after Newcastle attack

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 19 year old man was assaulted in Newcastle city centre in the early hours of this morning (Sunday, February 28).

The incident happened around 2.45am this morning in Clayton Street West, outside the Dog and Parrot. A 19-year-old man was punched causing him to fall the ground. He is currently in hospital in a critical condition.

Two men - aged 19 and 22 - have been arrested on suspicion of assault and are currently in police custody.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the incident and are asking any witnesses to come forward.

It's believed there were a number of people in the area at the time of the incident who police have not yet spoken to and detectives are keen for these people to get in contact.
