Despite the efforts of medics at the scene on Holly Avenue, John, who was born in Glasgow and recently moved to North Tyneside, was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

John’s next of kin are being supported by specially-trained officers.

Today (Tuesday Sept 24th), 41-year-old George Ness, of Avon Avenue, North Shields was charged with murder.

He is due to appear before North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court today.

A 34-year-old man, who was also arrested, has been released with no further action to be taken.

Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Matt Steel, of Northumbria Police, said: “First and foremost, all of our thoughts remain with John’s family and friends at this incredibly tragic and difficult time.

“Our specially trained officers continue to offer support to John’s loved ones, and we would ask the public to refrain from speculation both in the community and online which could jeopardise the ongoing proceedings.”
