Man charged after fatal Gateshead crash

This is an update in relation to a fatal collision at the roundabout junction of the Redheugh Bridge and Askew Road West that occurred at around 4am on Sunday, July 24. James Docherty, 17, was killed in the collision and a further two occupants of the BMW 3 Series were taken to hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Today (Wednesday, August 17) officers have charged Tyrone Quinn, 20, of Hewitson Terrace, Felling, Gateshead, with a number of offences. They include causing death by dangerous driving, causing death whilst disqualified from driving, driving whilst unfit through alcohol, driving whilst unfit through drugs and two counts of driving while above the prescribed drug limit. He will appear before South Tyneside Magistrates' Court later today (Thursday 18th August). Three other men arrested have been released with no further action.
