Man found dead in Benwell named

At around 5.30am Tuesday, May 10, police were called to the West End of Newcastle after reports of concern for the welfare of two men.

Officers were called to the scene on Joan Street by the Ambulance Service, where one man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Northumbria Police have now confirmed he is 21 year old Paul Brettwood, from the Newcastle area.

The second man was taken to hospital in a serious condition but his condition is now described as stable.

A 29-year-old man was arrested and has since been released under investigation.
