A Newcastle theatre is kicking off their new season with a Northumberland born writer making his Live Theatre Debut.
The Bounds is written by Stewart Pringle, telling the story of the true Golden Age of English football... the 1500s.
"The year is 1553, the true Golden Age of English football. It’s the Allen Valley Whitsun Game, and men will die today."
Stewart tells us it's a dark comedy, delving into North South struggles, rural divides and village sport.
He says there was nowhere else he'd rather set his show;
"There's something about the landscape there - but also the connectivity to that landscape,
"Something about the people there and the pride in where they live, but also their feeling that the place they live isn't always protected from violent political, social change."
"It felt like, if I was going to be writing something about 2 people in a kind of, beautiful but blasted kind of landscape - on the edge of violent action,
"Then the most exciting place for that to happen was in the fells and the moors and everything I grew up around."
Written by Stewart Pringle, and directed by Live's own Jack McNamara, The Bounds is a Live Theatre and Royal Court co-production.
It runs until Saturday the 8th of June, with a BSL interpreted show on the 28th of May, and Audio Described and Captioned performance on the 29th of May.
