Two soldiers from our region could find out if they are allowed to return home from India.

Nick Dunn from Ashington, and Nick Simpson from Catterick were arrested when the ship they were working on strayed into Indian waters.

That was in 2013, and although the charges against them were dropped the men along with four other Brits, they are now waiting to hear if they will be charged or allowed to go home.

Nick Dunn’s sister Lisa told us she’s hoping there won’t be any further delays, the courts in India close between May and July.

She said: “We really do feel that today is a crucial day, if we don’t get the verdict that we need today then his state of mind is a huge worry.

“Nick is one of the strongest people I’ve ever met, and he’s dealing with this in a way I never thought he’d be able to.”

Nick’s dad James told us his military training that has toughened him up. “After nearly two years it even gets to him, it’s mental torture.”

India’s Supreme Court are due to hear the case today (28th April).
